I had the opportunity to review the book "Shift Your Habit" and after finishing it, think it is definitely a book every family needs to own. The book is written by Elizabeth Rogers who is also the coauthor of "The Green Book" which is a book my husband got me for my birthday a few years ago and I love it as well. Both books focus on ways you can live a greener lifestyle, while "Shift Your Habit" specifically shows you ways to cut your day to day living costs while also making your life more eco-friendly. Who says going green has to be expensive?
The book features several families who took the challenge to make changes in their lives that would have a positive impact on the environment. Each family was surprised by how easy it was to make these changes while also helping them to cut costs around the house and put money back into their pocket. Every family that was featured said that making these changes in their lives has only had a positive impact.
I was impressed by how easy the book is to read through. It is formatted so that you can either read it cover to cover, or just skim through the chapters that peak your interest. The book gives you money saving ideas on almost every aspect of your life including: grocery shopping, commuting, health and beauty, movies, pets, lawn care and much more. I was amazed to find out that I can save $80 per year if my husband and I shorten our showers by 2 minutes everyday. I can also save $70 per year by lowering my thermostat on my water heater from 140 degrees to 120. Both of these money saving tricks are things that won't even be that noticeable but can make such a big difference to our checkbooks and the planet. "Shift Your Habit" is filled with hundreds of other ideas that are certain to improve your life.

One thing I learned was to use an electric pressure cooker instead of a stovetop or oven for meals.

Buy 100% post-consumer recycled paper for printers and copiers. For an office that uses 2 cases of paper per month, using recycled paper saves a total of 14 trees, 4,200 gallons of water, and 36 pounds of air pollution.
