Kitchen Table Dilemma

In preparation to downsize to a small apartment while my husband goes to school, I've decided I will need to make our black table (pictured above) work for our family. The new blue table I refinished will be much too large for an apartment. I'm going to store the blue table at my parents house until my husband finishes school in a couple years. I think it will be such a fun art table for my kids!
Anyway, I've been trying to decide what I want to do with the table to make it more likable. Ha. It is in pretty bad shape. The top is scratched up and has what looks like bleach (?) stains? I have no idea. I have also really, really disliked the stinkin' cracks in it. Like who designs a DINING table with those things? There is always food stuck in the crevices and it is just gross.
I've already filled all the cracks with wood glue and have sanded down the top. I have no idea what to do next. While searching pinterest, I did find these fun ideas below. However, I do think the pop of yellow would be fun, my husband doesn't really love yellow and I think it would look a little crazy with the blue table in the opposite room currently being used as my desk.
Still, so fun, right?

Any suggestions on what I should do with our table? I seriously am stuck.
