How does the TemporalScanner Thermometer work?
(From Exergen Instructions For Use booklet)
"As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:
First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 times per second, locking in the highest temperature it sense and;
Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the area where the temperature of the area temperature is being taken. The patented "arterial heat balance" (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature."

I learned :
ReplyDeleteArterial temperature is the same temperature as the blood flowing from the heart. It is the best determinate of body temperature.
Thanks!
I never knew that ambient temperature existed! And I learned that the thermometers are sensitive to it which help them be accurate.
ReplyDeleteAnd I subscribe with Google Reader!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that the temporal artery temperature changes faster than than temperature taken rectally. In other words, if my little one had the start of a fever I would register it earlier with this gadget!

ReplyDeleteThe TemporalScanner has patented software, providing arterial heat balance. This unique process determines temperature by accurately measuring the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling (warming) caused by heat loss (gain) to the environment. amsbolda@hotmail.com
