Painted Wing Back Chair

In my last post about this chair, I shared that I had painted all the pink trim to update it a bit.
When it was all done, it was kind of blah. Since I had painted the trim and sides, I decided I was brave enough to go ahead and paint the whole thing.
To do this, I mixed 1 part water, to 2 parts paint medium, to 3 parts paint. Using a little water and some medium helps make the paint flexible and not so crunchy.
I chose a pretty blue and went crazy with a paint brush. I only did one coat to keep the cool chevrony texture and so the paint wouldn't get any stiffer on the fabric. The whole chair probably only took me about 45 minutes.
I added a little bit of nailhead trim to spruce it up a bit. Here are my results:

I am loving its new look. What do you think? Are you brave enough to try painting an upholstered piece of furniture?

  1. I've thought about painting upholstery. I might just have to give it a try now. Your chair looks very nice.

  2. Wow, that's amazing! I have a wing chair that I picked up whose upholstery is in good shape, just stained... Think I might give this a try! Thanks for the tip on using the paint medium to keep it soft!
