Pre-Move: Allie's Room

I am busy, busy packing away. Our house isn't feeling like home anymore. The walls are bare, the rugs are rolled, boxes are taking over.  I'm at the point now where I am ready to be in Minnesota, unpacking instead of packing.
Allie's big girl room was so fun to imagine and then put together. I feel like it represented her quirky personality. I can't wait to see how her room evolves in our next home. For now, her room is mostly packed up and completely taken apart. I got a little teary eyed while rolling and wrapping her rug today. I'm going to miss this house where my baby girl turned into a big girl. Two years makes such a difference at this age. She was just a baby when we moved in and now she is running around the house, hollering, and bossing everyone around. When we move from Minnesota, she will be close to starting kindergarten. Time moves so fast with little ones.

This is my last post in my pre-move series. And it is almost time to say goodbye to this house. Decorating a rental home has proven to be quite fun. I've had to get creative with color and temporary decorating solutions, but now I can't wait to do it all again in our next rental. I've already been planning all kinds of projects. So excited!

Pouf! It's Magical, Trust Me.

I have finished Allie's room as much as I am going to finish it while we are living in this house. We are moving in just a few weeks so it's almost time to start packing up. I will do a 'Pre-Move' post on her room before we leave so you can see how it all came together. I'll wait to do her room reveal post when we move to Minnesota since I am sure it will be a little different.
Adding in coral and pinks have really given her room a polished and feminine feel-especially since there is a lot of navy going on. The middle of the room was feeling a little heavy and dark so I was pretty stinkin' excited when this lovely Pouf from Zeldabelle came in the mail. It is so crisp and bright and structured. Love.
 The pouf is firm enough to use as a temporary side table with a tray on top, but also cushy enough that your bottom will most likely thank you for the seat. True story. This bad boy (girl?) has over 10 lbs of polyester fiber filling and bounces right back to its perfect form when that bottom of yours decides to hop off.
 One thing I really love about this particular pouf is that it has a zipper. As in the cover can be taken off and washed, making even this mostly white (with pretty coral polka dots) ottoman totally perfect for children's room. Ideal, because this happens a lot:
 I love handmade, especially when it is clear how much love and talent went into making something. It is definitely clear with this pouf. The quality is amazing and I love how perfectly the pattern lines up to make a star shape. We are so pleased!

If you are interested, you can purchase your own Pouf Ottoman at Zeldabelle. She offers large and mini sizes, and all in super cute fabric. We are crazy about ours. I think I might eventually buy a couple more for our family room.
What is your favorite pouf that Zeldabelle offers? She also has gorgeous pillows and curtains. Check it.

I received this product for free. However, all opinions are my own and I was not paid to give a positive review.

Hello, Mr. Rhino {Big Girl Room}

I've been planning on a rhino head for Allie's room since I decided to transform her nursery into a big girl room. I'm pretty nuts for some faux taxidermy. I originally planned on white, but when I saw the gold at SquackDoodle I had to have it. It's perfect...so playful and stylish.
No joke, you would have thought a live puppy showed up at my house when the rhino came in the mail. Allie and Carson were fighting over who got to hold it and pet it. They are freaks. Before they could find a way to put a leash on it and call it their own, I put a nail in the wall and hung it up. It came ready to hang with a sawtooth hanger which was mighty convenient to quickly end the battle of who gets to hold it. Answer: the wall.
The original listing was copper, but they can do all kinds of fun colors. I obviously went with gold and I'm glad I did. I'm liking the small bit of metallic shine over her bed. The sun hits it and it sure is pretty.
The rhino head is a little smaller than the one you might see at other retail stores, but the perfect size for over a twin bed or in a picture grouping.

It's love, I tell ya.
Check out SquackDoodle on Etsy. The Rhino Head is only $38, so much more affordable than other basic ones I have seen in just white.
And I am crushing on her wall hooks. To die for. I seriously think I need this Steer head for my jewelry.
What are you loving from her shop?

Allie's Reading Corner {Big Girl Room}

Allie has almost always loved books. Probably because her older brother loves books so much and she wants to be just like him. I find her in her room every morning and nap time either playing barbies or "reading" a massive pile of books. Her current favorite is 'Brown Bear.'
I don't think this ottoman is coming with us to Minnesota, but for now it works great for this corner and for reading. We sit here together every night while I rock her and read her a story before we snuggle in her bed. She's my sweet girl.

Love seeing books all over her room. Book mess, for some reason, doesn't bother me. It's just so cute. Do your kids like to look at all their books at the same time or just my mess makers?

Allie's Curtains {Big Girl Room}

I included Allie's fabric for her curtains in my mood board. I chose the Monaco Linen Ikat Contemporary Drapery Fabric. It has grey and beige and white and the color and pattern is just perfect for adding a touch of modern sophistication to her room. The fabric is thick and luxurious. I clearly need a new curtain rod to really show off my new pretties, but I'll get that done once we move.

I'm a terrible sewer. Like probably the worst ever so yeah, don't consider this a tutorial.
To make my curtains, I measured, hemmed the sides, pinned the top and bottom leaving an opening on top for the curtain rod.
Then, of course, I got out my handy dandy seam ripper and did it all over again because they looked crazy. I can't decide if it's my measuring, my pinning, or my sewing, but I can never sew anything right the first time.
Anyway, they worked out and I'm crazy about the curtains. For me, they totally make her room.
 Love, love, love.

 I'm also a big fan of the pattern repeat n the curtains and the rug (more on that later). There is a lot of pattern mixing in this room so a little repeat helps make it work.
I can't wait to post  more of this room so you can see how everything works together and how awesome the curtains really are.
If you are interested in the curtain fabric, you can purchase it at buyfabrics.com.
It's called Monaco Linen Ikat for $22.95/yard.
Now wait till you see more of the rug with the curtains. So pretty.

Allie's Headboard {Big Girl Room}

I have been busy up in Allie's room. My family keeps picking on me for trying to finish her big girl room before we move. I have no idea why, but I always do crap like this. Like seriously every time we are about to move. I think having a fun/large project helps relieve some moving stress, which I realize is doesn't make any sense. Anyway, I thought it might be good for Allie to get used to not sleeping in her crib before we move so everything doesn't seem completely new and scary in a new place.
I have been holding onto this awesome fabric for months with intentions of someday making it into a headboard. I picked it up with my bestie at a discount fabric store for $1.99.
I used leftover board from Carson's headboard, stapled a foam pad that my mother-in-law gave me, and stapled batting on that, and then stapled the fabric. Easy peasy.
Below is her crib converted into a toddler bed. It was good for practicing how to not fall out of bed. I decided to do a twin size bed with a headboard instead because I didn't want to have to take apart, pack it, and then build her crib again. Plus, I figured it would be good to have a twin bed in our next apartment in case we have a bunch of guests. And I love being able to snuggle with her in bed.

So there it is. I can't wait to post more of her room. It's finally coming together. Just in time to be taken all apart. Woop.

Big Girl Room Mood Board

Winner of the Tidy Books ForgetMeNot-Andrea @ Strawberry Chic
I am getting so excited to transform Allie's nursery into a big girl room. I decided to not go with her nursery hot pink, but still wanted her room to be fun, young, and feminine. The main color scheme in her room is navy and coral with pops of turquoise and gold. What isn't pictured is the navy and white quilt my mother-in-law is making, Allie's lace dresser, the rose petal mobile, and a gold mirror which will all be in Allie's new big girl room.
I can't wait to get started! Here are some fun things I am loving for her new room:

I'm thinking the Ikat Linen would be gorgeous curtains.
That rug is what made me decide to add a pop of turquoise to the color scheme. It's just so pretty. And that lamp-yeah, we belong together.

So what do you think? Love, hate? Let's hear it!
